Tenth Annual Morning Matters Breakfast
Admission to Morning Matters is generously underwritten by our sponsors. To attend for free, please register online here.
Each year the Morning Matters Breakfast gathers hundreds of business, education, non-profit, government, medical, and community leaders to connect with the mission of Child Health Services at Manchester Community Health Center. The breakfast generates revenue to improve the health and well-being of area children. This year’s Morning Matters Breakfast is scheduled for May 9 at the Radisson Hotel Manchester Downtown.
The keynote speaker is Rona Zlokower, the executive director of Media Power Youth, a media literacy program which has become recognized for changing the way kids think about and use media. She will talk about why media matters so much to the healthy development of children. Zlokower recalls how in 2000, well before we were carrying cell phones in our hands and children had eight hours a day of screen time, Dr. Selma Deitch sought to address the growing influence of media on child and teen health and behavior. Zlokower worked with Dr. Deitch at Child Health Services, and 17 years later remains leader of the program, first called Media Smart, which is now the nonprofit Media Power Youth.
Judith Jolton has been the volunteer chairperson of the Morning Matters since the first year of the fundraising breakfast in 2008. She began volunteering at Child Health Services by driving families to the dental clinic. “I’ve seen the event grow and mature so much over ten years,” Jolton says. “I get so much satisfaction to see how many people attend and how much money comes in to help the children at Child Health Services at MCHC.”
Guests at the benefit breakfast will be invited to make a meaningful gift to Child Health Services at MCHC. The dollars raised will go directly to provide exceptional medical care for over 6,500 of Manchester’s children as well as family support, transportation, interpretation, and other services that have been part of Dr. Selma Deitch’s groundbreaking vision at Child Health Services for more than 30 years.
